The Black Douglas is a tribute to the legendary Sir James Douglas, Scotland’s mightiest warrior and invincible scourge of Northern England. He died in a fierce battle against overwhelming Spanish forces swinging his claymore and clutching a silver casket containing the heart of Robert the Bruce, King of Scotland.
True to his word, he was courageous to the end. And now, some 700 years since his passing, we immortalise his spirit with our whisky that proudly bears his name.
Sir James Douglas and his bold, courageous men are celebrated to this day with every glass of The Black Douglas Scotch Whisky.

SAVOUR THE MOMENT
The modern whisky sour is simply whisky, lemon juice and sugar. The addition of egg white brings perfect balance adding texture to the drink.

2 parts The Black Douglas Scotch Whisky
1 part lemon juice
1 teaspoon superfine sugar
Optional egg white
Ice (crushed)
Shake the whisky, lemon juice and sugar well with crushed ice (if using egg white, add this too), then strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Simple and delicious.

This cocktail is anything but old fashioned - it has been championed by Don Draper and recently brought back into popularity.

For the sugar syrup:
50g brown sugar
50ml water
Bitters of your choice
2 slices of orange
2 Maraschino cherries
60ml The Black Douglas Scotch Whisky
Ice
Put the sugar and water in a small pan and bring to the boil, stirring to dissolve the sugar. Decant into a jar or bottle and allow to cool.
Put a splash of syrup in a small rocks glass and add a couple of dashes of bitters. Put in a slice of orange and a cherry, then muddle against the bottom of the glass until the fruit is thoroughly mushed. Remove the orange and any big bits of cherry skin. Pour in The Black Douglas Scotch Whisky and stir well. Add plenty of ice and garnish with the remaining fruit.

A barman at the Waldorf Astoria in New York made a Manhattan with scotch instead of bourbon. And so the Rob Roy was created.

Bitters to taste
Maraschino Cherry for garnish
Mix all ingredients together in a chilled glass, stir and enjoy.

1/2 part sugar syrup
Club soda
Maraschino cherry for garnish
Orange slice for garnish
Ice
Pour The Black Douglas Scotch Whisky, lemon juice, and sugar syrup into a Collins glass with ice cubes. Stir thoroughly and top with club soda to taste. Garnish with a cherry.

Invented in the USA in the 1970’s, this cocktail was Marlon Brando’s favourite tipple.

1.5 parts Amaretto
Ice
Pour the Amaretto and The Black Douglas Scotch Whisky into a rocks glass over ice and stir gently. Serve immediately and drink slowly.
